Book Review~ Faith Alone by Ruth Meyer (Blog Tour!)

Hi folksies– excuse my randomly popping in during my blogging hiatus; I’m still taking a break! Today I have a book review blog tour thing for this awesome book, Faith Alone, by Ruth Meyer!

About the Book

Grace Neunaber has finally found happiness. After struggling for years as a single mother of four, she’s thrilled about her newfound faith and her marriage to a strong Christian man. But as David is added to their family of five, her enthusiasm is quickly dampened by her older children’s open hostility and resentment toward their new father.

For Grace’s daughter, Faith, having a principal for a step-dad is only one of the downsides. Her parents are nosy, restrictive, and most of all embarrassing. But Faith’s issues with her parents are quickly shoved aside when she’s faced with a decision that will change the course of her future.

Each member of the Neunaber family will have to rely on their faith in God if their strained relationships are going to knit them closer together instead of tear their family apart.

My Thoughts

So, let me begin this review by sharing that when I opened this book, I had no idea what I was getting into.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it.

Faith Alone is a book about family, change, growth, truth gain, and loss. It’s centered around topics such as abortion, teen motherhood, step-parenting, and unwarranted maturity. Above all, this was a story about redemption and forgiveness and love.

I’m going to stop being poetic now. Ready?

Okay, so wow. Faith Alone follows the crazily fantastic family of the Neunabers and their completely extraordinary journey through a year of whimsical ol’ life. This is actually the second book of a series, the first of which I haven’t read, but I think it does a good job standing by itself, and it wasn’t in the least confusing to me. The characters were all fun and wacky and realistic; the plot was pretty much the funnest big-family chronicle you could get; and the depth. The morals. It wasn’t at all preachy, and I mean AT ALL. It was very sensitive and serious about each difficult topic that had to be handled. I commend the author for being so careful, and therefore so effective, at shaping the story into a beautiful message which everyone should see.

I’m serious– I hate preachiness in books; it’s a huge pet peeve of mine. But this book wasn’t like that at all. You wouldn’t fall asleep in the middle of it– I went from “Hmm, this looks interesting” to speed-reading it in a few sittings. 😀

Highly recommended for all readers of Christian fiction. (And, may I be so bold as to say, even to those who are not. ^^) It was so worth the read. A big thumbs-up for the author!

4.5 stars for the rating. Read this book!

About the Author

Ruth Meyer graduated from Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a degree in church music and no plans whatsoever to become an author. But a student of the week project for her son inspired Our Faith from A to Z, a children’s picture book. After that, it was only a matter of time before she tried her hand at fiction. As both the daughter of and the wife of a pastor, Ruth has moved around a lot, and her experiences provide many ideas for her writing. Currently, she resides in rural Texas with her husband, their five children, and two dogs. It is her hope that through her writing, readers are assured of God’s grace through His Son, Jesus.

  1. Thanks so much for your kind review and for taking the time to read the book! I love reviews like this, where the reader was pleasantly surprised and caught up in the storyline, knowing little to nothing about the book or author beforehand. Blessings on your day!

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! It’s not squeaky-clean– it deals with topics like teen pregnancy and abortion– so I’d advise you to check out the content first, but other than that it’s fantastic.

      1. Topically, this is true. I wouldn’t advise parents to allow an eight-year-old to read it. But “squeaky-clean” in that there’s nothing explicit. We all *know* what has to happen for pregnancy, but no details are given. It’s not a “Fifty Shades Of Grey” sort of book. At. All.

      2. Agreed! I’m thankful for that. Honestly, I don’t think the content would be a problem for you, Rebecca, but that’s up to your parents! ^^ 🙂

      3. Definitely. As a parent of five kids myself, two being teenage boys, I am very careful of what I write. Some “young adult” novels are waaaay too graphic for my own taste! I don’t write anything I wouldn’t allow my own teens to read.
