The [Extremely Long Overdue] Music Tag

I cannot ignore or deny the opinion that from afar this graphic looks very much like one of those fossilized-in-amber insect exhibits you see in museums and textbooks

Hello folksies! I think I need to stick to a blogging schedule or I’ll never get all the stuff I want to post posted… But that’s not what we’re here for today.

Today, we are here for the Music Tag! Which I was tagged for about a million years ago by Carlye over at Carlye’s Camera, and actually wanted to do but then somehow never did. But well, Nicole recently did her post of the tag, and since apparently I’ve become Nicole’s tag thief I decided I might as well do it now. *applauds me*

So anywhatsit! Let’s get this thing started!

But first, rules.

  • Write ten songs that come on shuffle (no skipping). But skipping songs is one of my greatest talents…
  • Write your favorite lyric from each song. If I can decide, that is.
  • Tag some people. Love how it says “some” and doesn’t specify how many? That is freedom right there and it is beautiful.

1. “Guns and Ships” from Hamilton the musical

I kinda cheated on this one because it was playing when I shuffled and decided I might as well listen to the full thing over again

How do we emerge victorious from the quagmire?
Leave the battlefield waving Betsy Ross’ flag higher?
Yo. Turns out we have a secret weapon!
An immigrant you know and love who’s unafraid to step in!
He’s constantly confusin’, confoundin’ the British henchmen
Ev’ryone give it up for America’s favorite fighting Frenchman!

*commence crazy rap*

My dudes y’all have no idea how much I love this song. And also because I’m a rulebreaker this part:

Alexander Hamilton,
Troops are waiting in the field for you
If you join us right now, together we can turn the tide
Oh, Alexander Hamilton
I have soldiers that will yield for you
If we manage to get this right
They’ll surrender by early light
The world will never be the same, Alexander…

I should probably stop now before I end up copying and pasting the entire song on

2. “Back to December” by Taylor Swift

So this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you saying I’m sorry for that night
And I’d go back to December all the time

Yay for Taylor’s old songs! I… don’t really have much more to say. This one is pretty nostalgic though, and it always does take me back to December 😉

3. “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle

There is no distance cannot be covered over and over
You’re not defenseless
I’ll be your shelter, I’ll be your armor

I love Lauren Daigle’s voice. That is all. also that I skipped two songs before this because I wasn’t really in the mood to hear them

I hear the whisper underneath your breath
I hear you whisper you have nothing left…

4. “Tightrope” from The Greatest Showman

First, I wonder how this song ended up on this playlist. I guess Susie did it. Anyway, I do like it, so it’s not a big deal.

Hand in my hand and you promised to never let go
We’re walking a tightrope
High in the sky, we can see the whole world down below
We’re walking a tightrope
Never sure, will you catch me if I should fall *plate shatters remember that part?*
Well it’s all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view

It’s so saaaddd 😥

5. “Africa” Cover by Lisa Cimorelli and Tyler Ward

Wild dogs cry out in the night
as they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti

I’ll admit that I have no clue what this song is actually about, as I’m an uncultured East Asian, but I mean, who doesn’t love Lisa Cimorelli in a song, right? (The original by Toto is pretty good too, but I like this acoustic cover)

6. “Where Have All the Staplers Gone?” from VeggieTales

I am laughing so hard right now, this isn’t even funny.

Where have all the staplers gone?
(Staplers gone!)
What happened to our paper-clips?
The ballpoint pens are gone again!
(They’re gone again!)
The Sharpies all have lost their tIpS!!!
Where have all the staplers gone?

I consider it an unbelievable stroke of luck that this song came on, and possibly a result of my skipping another three songs. YES, THIS IS IN MY SPOTIFY LIKED SONGS PLAYLIST. Now excuse me as I skip yet another song.

Oh, and another one.

7. “Many Roads” by Andrew Peterson

‘Cause if you’ve traveled all this way
Then I will do my best to play
My biggest hits (that don’t exist)
And if you’ll lend to me your ear I’ll sing ’em pretty
And I’ll never ever sing ’em out of tune
I will not forget the words of any chorus, bridge, or verse
I promise you

I think it’s totally great that Andrew Peterson is an author AND a musician. I mean, how cool is that? (Now you all just wait ’till can get my hands on his books and I’ll jump on the Wingfeather Saga wagon, okay?)

*sighs in frustration as another instrumental song comes on*

8. “Lost in the Woods” from Frozen 2

Again you’re gone
Off on a different path than mine
I’m left behind
Wondering if I should follow

This song… just cracks me up. I mean, THE REINDEER. When we saw this in the theater… Just. Wow. xD

9. “Hymn for the Missing” by Red

Where are you now?
Are you lost? Will I find you again?
Are you alone? Are you afraid?
Are you searching for me?
Why did you go? I had to stay
Now I’m reaching for you
Will you wait? Will you wait
Will I see you again?

*weeps* It’s a sad song

10. “Defying Gravity” from Wicked the musical

As someone told me lately
Everyone deserves a chance to fly!
And if I’m flying solo, at least I’m flying free
To those who ground me
take a message back from me:
Tell them how I am defying gravity
I’m flying high, defying gravity
And soon I’ll match them in renown
And nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was,
is ever gonna bring me down!

*claps for Elphaba and Glinda*

Anyway, guess what song came on right after this one? “Supermarket Flowers” by Ed Sheeran! Just thought you’d like to know because who doesn’t love that song.

For this I tag everyone and anyone who wants to do this. And if you’re wondering if you should, know that it is actually really fun to shuffle playlists while writing a blog post and skip multiple songs and wonder how in the world is there not another Hamilton song playing considering like one-fourth of the entire playlist is comprised of Hamilton. But, ya know, up to you.

Also, from now on we ARE sticking to a schedule. There are a bajillion posts I want to write but haven’t, so this is gonna work!

Always be a happy camper!

Until next time,

~ Merie

So, whaddya think, folksies? Was this post much fun to read? Will you be giving any of the above songs a listen? REMEMBER VEGGIETALES Anyone else here wanna lament the fact that Broadway is an ocean away, not just a moment away? *cough* Okay I’ll stop now bye
