The 20-Question Book Tag

Hello there, my little folksies! Guess what fun I’m having today!

… Oh wait you already saw the title never mind.

As I’m sure is pretty obvious… I’m doing the 20-Question Book Tag! I was tagged by the lovely Jenna Terese (it’s been a whole fair month since then, I’m afraid), and I’m very excited since this is the first time in doing a blog tag (yay me). So without further ado, let’s begin!

Q#1: How many books is too many in a series?

Really that depends on what kind of series it is. Most series have closely-related events about the same people, in chronological order– in which case there shouldn’t be more than six or seven (eight would be acceptable, since that’s an even number 😉 ). But a lot of my favorite books belong in series of standalone novels that may be in randomly scattered order or just not quite as closely linked. In that case, I’d be fine with any number. (*Cough, cough* *Looks at planned series* Ahem)

Q#2: How do you feel about cliffhangers?

*Fury*

That is all. 🙂

Q#3: Hardback or paperback?

Hardback books with gorgeous covers are must-haves, but paperback is obviously less expensive. Except everyone prefers hardback, including myself.

Q#4: Favorite book?

I beg your pardon, but why is there not an s at the end of that word?

To put it shortly: all the Redwall books by Brian Jacques; all the Four Kingdoms and Beyond by Melanie Cellier; the Foxcraft Trilogy by Inbali Iserles; and a currently nonexistent but frantically hoped for Rapunzel retelling by KM Shea about the second prince of Arcainia. (… You probably have no idea what that last one means, do you?) But wait I have more…

Q#5: Least favorite book?

Ummm. There’s Red Rope of Fate by KM Shea, but it’s not really a big deal. Usually if I dislike a book I just forget about it.

Q#6: Love triangles, yes or no?

NONONONONONONONONO

Great now I sound like a toddler. That’s how much I hate those things.

Love triangles are horrid nasty beastly things, and I’ve never read one that didn’t make me roll my eyes in frustration or want to scream as though my heart was being ripped out. There is one in a series I’m currently reading (AND I LOVE THIS SERIES TO DEATH SO), and I happen to already know who’s going to win the gal, but the other guy happens to be MY FAVORITE CHARACTER and in the end he just flies off brokenhearted and… everything… *sobs*

Q#7: The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

Swan Lake by KM Shea. I’m not a fan of the ballet retellings (since they almost never EVER feature both protagonists DYING in the end yes I’m morbid like that forgive me), but this retelling just didn’t work out for me.

Q#8: A book you’re currently reading?

If you know anything about me (or check the GR currently-reading widget up there) you’ll notice that I’m usually reading several books at once. Now that includes A Winter Dark and Deadly by Nicki Chapelway, Mark of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse, Live Without You by Sarah Grace Gyrzy, and Apprentice of Magic by KM Shea.

Q#9: Last book you recommended to someone?

Blank Mastermind by Rosey Mucklestone! Seriously that book is awesome. (I’m recommending it to you now, y’know!) See my review of it here.

Q#10: Oldest book you’ve read (by publication date)?

The Bible. 🙂

Q#11: Newest book you’ve read (by publication date)?

Well, I’m currently beta-reading A Winter Dark and Deadly by Nicki Chapelway…

Q#12: Favorite author?

*Groan* How could you demand that of me!

Brian Jacques, Melanie Cellier, Melanie Dickerson, KM Shea, Nicki Chapelway, Nadine Brandes… uh, wait there are more!! *Panics*

Q#13: Buying books or borrowing?

Buying, of course! Besides none of the libraries here have good books in English, and they’re all far away and super hard to navigate. :(((

Q#14: A book you dislike but everyone else seems to love?

Hands down, the Harry Potter series. I’ve watched several of the movies (which I guess doesn’t matter ’cause this is a book tag) and read a few of the books. Couldn’t get into it at all. Okay, people, I know you’re about to kill me now, huh?

Q#15: Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks all the way! (Even though I used to dog-ear them, the young silly naïve child that I was…) Plus I like using bookmarks that actually go with the book being read. 🙂

Q#16: A book you can always reread?

Not a lot of books have the quality of being rereadable! I have several that are (including Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder DON’T ASK), but probably my favorite out of the lot are the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis.

Q#17: Can you read while listening to music?

Normally, yes. I can hum to lyrics too, and get the story at the same time, but I prefer instrumentals when reading. I just don’t do it.

Q#18: One POV or multiple POVs?

Depends on the writing style. First-person, I’d prefer only one narrator, but for third-person… 😉 Omniscient is usually better than limited.

Q#19: Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

I normally don’t have time to sit all day reading a full-length novel, but if a book really grabs me or if I’m binge-reading a series, no more than a few sittings are required. 🙂

Q#20: Who do you tag?

I tag…

Rose @ The Bright Bookcase

Mya @ Life from Behind a Camera

Hannah @ The Writerly Worm

And of course, you, reader! If you want to play tag, go ahead!

Now that that’s done and written… DID YOU KNOW THAT IT SNOWED IN BEIJING ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY?? It was amazing. Like, guys, it actually snowed and it actually stuck. We haven’t had that kind of snow in two years. TWO. WHOLE. YEARS. Without snow, it’s really dry here, so that was very welcome. When we were in America, it used to snow all the time… But now, when it snows everyone freaks out and gets super-excited and all that.

Also I’m just… in a really awesome mood today. 😀 I hope you people are, too!

Until next time,

~ Merie

  1. I love all your answers! I agree with most of them, though I like a good mix of hardbacks and paperbacks. That’s awesome that it snowed for you! It also snowed for me yesterday, but it’s snowed so much this winter I’m just ready for spring! Thanks for the tag, I can’t wait to do it. I’m glad you’re having an amazing day. 😃

    1. Oh my, a forty+ book series? My favorite series has only 22. xD

And yeah, I get what you mean. Lately my reading progress has been really lacking, so I’ve ended up with lots of books on my currently-reading shelf. 🙂
